Buckle up. It’s going to be a big week for earnings. Today’s action was mixed as stocks were higher early in the day, but tilted to the negative in the afternoon part of the trading session. The 10 year Treasury Note yield flirted with 3% early in the day, but for the moment remains slightly below. Some feel that if interest rates on the 10 year note get decidedly above 3% that stocks could be negatively affected.
As for stocks, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 14 points to finish the day at 24,448. The S&P 500 was up a fraction to close at 2670. Gold was down $12 to trade at $1,325 per ounce, while oil was up $.52 to trade at $68.92 per barrel WTI.
As for earnings, this week we’ll hear from Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, Boeing, Intel, Caterpillar, Exxon Mobil, Ford, 3M, Verizon, ATT, UPS, Coca-Cola, Starbucks, GM, United Technologies and Chevron, just to name a few. Today after the close we get Alphabet (Google). Again, not only the report itself but how the stocks react to the news is what we’ll be watching. A busy week ahead.
Have a nice evening everyone.
