After last week’s volatility, especially Thursday and Friday, today’s action was on the quiet side. Stocks had an upward bias at the opening and were able to hold onto the gains as the session wore on.
By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 46 points to finish the day at 18,070. The S&P 500 was up 6 points to close at 2114. Gold was up $13 to trade at $1188 per ounce, while oil was down $.21 to trade at $58.94 per barrel WTI.
We are gearing up for jobs data this week as well as a speech from Fed Chair Yellen on Wednesday. In the meantime we wrap up our last business week of earnings reports. So far, it would appear despite the lowered expectations, or perhaps because of them, stocks seemed to have survived a potentially damaging earnings season. We’ll let you know how this week plays out.
Have a nice evening everyone.
