After a quick morning sell-off (perhaps market participants were unimpressed with the Presidents “plan” last night), stocks recovered some in afternoon trading. Nevertheless, the week has been marked by directionless trading and a lack of commitment from both the bulls and the bears.
By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 19 points to finish the day at 17,049. The S&P 500 was up 1 point to close at 1997. Gold was down $3 to trade at $1242 per ounce, while oil was up $1.50 to trade at $93.17 per barrel WTI.
More importantly, of course, today is the 13th anniversary of 9/11. Really, that is the only thing that matters today, especially in light of what is continuing to develop in the Middle East. We won’t ever forget.
Have a nice evening everyone.
