As the Carolinas brace for Florence, stocks struggled to hang on to early gains. Somewhat muted inflation numbers both at the wholesale and retail level seemed to help boost stocks at the opening, but after that, things drifted aimlessly for the remainder of the trading session.
By the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 147 points to close at 26,145. The S&P 500 was up 15 points to close at 2,904. Gold was down $4.30 to trade at $1,206 per ounce, while oil was down $1.59 to trade at $68.78 per barrel WTI.
As mentioned, all eyes will be on the impending storm that is about to hit the southeast coast. All in its path will be in our thoughts and prayers. Let’s see how the trading week finishes out tomorrow.
Have a nice evening everyone.
