It was another mixed day for stocks with the Nasdaq and S&P 500 posting modest gains while the Dow moved lower. After the close we get an earnings report from Amazon and tomorrow morning we will get a look at the non-farm payroll number. Analysts’ estimates are that 169,000 jobs were created in January. We will see.

As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 125 points to finish the day at 44,747. The S&P 500 was up 22 points to close at 6,083. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 99 points to close at 19,791. Gold was down $13 to trade at $2,879 per ounce, while oil was down $.48 to trade at $70.55 per barrel WTI.

It will be interesting to see how the market reacts to the jobs number tomorrow. A hot number might send the long end of the yield curve higher, while a cooler than expected number may add to the rally we have seen in bond prices this week. We’ll let you know how the week finishes out tomorrow.

Have a nice evening everyone.
