The Dow Jones Industrial Average moved above 40,000 for the first time ever today but that lasted just long enough for the guys on the floor to put on ball caps with 40,000 on them. Other than that memorable event it was a pretty quiet day for stocks after yesterday’s action.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 38 points to finish the day at 39,869. The S&P 500 was down 11 points to close at 5,297. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 44 points to close at 16,698. Gold was down $10 to trade at $2,384 per ounce, while oil was up $.66 to trade at $79.29 per barrel WTI.

It would not be surprising to see stocks take a bit of a pause given the move higher we have seen the past couple of weeks. Let’s see how the week finishes out tomorrow.

Have a nice evening everyone.
