For those of you who had the opportunity to watch the business channel CNBC over the past 22 years, today’s announcement that Mark Haines has died gives me that feeling that I have lost a family member. I have watched Mark since day one of his groundbreaking show, Squawk Box, and would just cringe when he would interview corporate executives and politicians. Boy, talk about holding people accountable and cutting through the nonsense. Mark was as good and as tough as they come. I will never forget an interview with Congressman Barney Frank a couple of years ago when the Congressman bristled at the line of questioning and ended the interview threatening never to come on again. Haines simply said, “I think we’ll survive without you”.
It’s rare that you get someone like Mark who really tells it like it is and never lets anyone get away with any nonsense. I’ll miss the old curmudgeon. We’ll discuss the markets and the economy later in the week. In the meantime, I am just reflecting today on how life is short and I hope we enjoy every day.
Have a nice day everyone.
